Intermatic GM40AV mechanical timer provides automated process solutions to program and schedule ON / OFF cycles for precise timing and to aid in optimising energy usage with enhanced equipment performance. It is used in generator exercise, septic treatment, air movement & ventilation and refrigeration merchandiser.

Working Mechanism:

  • The timer operates using a clockwork mechanism driven by a motor. This motor is powered by the supply voltage and constantly turns the clock dial of the timer.
  • The clock dial is equipped with small tabs known as 'trippers' that are positioned around its edge. These trippers are attached to the timer's rotating mechanism and can be manually set to specific times on the clock.
  • Users set the desired ON and OFF times by placing the trippers at corresponding hours on the clock dial. When a tripper reaches a stationary ON lever, it triggers the switch contacts to close, enabling the flow of electrical current. When it reaches an OFF lever, the switch contacts open, interrupting the current flow.
  • The movement of the trippers activates the switch contacts, which control the connected electrical load. When an ON tripper engages the ON lever, the contacts close, turning on the load. Similarly, when an OFF tripper engages the OFF lever, the contacts open, turning off the load.
  • As the clock dial continues to rotate, the trippers repeat their cycle, causing the switch contacts to open and close at the specified times. This repetitive action enables the timer to manage the load based on the designated ON and OFF schedules.

  • Begin by opening the door and releasing the spring latch to remove the interior protective cover.

  • Choose the knockouts you intend to use. To remove the inner 1/2 inch knockout, insert a flathead screwdriver into the slot and gently punch the knockout loose. Remove the slug. If a 3/4 inch knockout is needed, remove the outer ring using pliers after taking out the 1/2 inch knockout. If required, use a knife to smooth the edge.
  • Position the enclosure at the desired mounting location and mark the three mounting holes. First, install the top screw using one of the provided spacers, then hang the enclosure on the keyhole. Drive the remaining two screws at the enclosure's bottom through the mounting holes, each passing through a supplied spacer, and secure them to the wall.
  • Prior to attaching the conduit hubs to the enclosure, connect them to the conduit. Once the hubs are inserted into the enclosure, cautiously tighten the hub lock nut. Avoid over-tightening.
  • Reattach the printed circuit board, ensuring that the spring latch at the bottom of the PCB is properly engaged.
  • Adhere to national and local electrical and safety codes when wiring (refer to wiring diagrams).
  • Connect all ground wires to the ground lug inside the case located at the enclosure's bottom.
  • Replace the interior protective cover.
  • Finally, close the enclosure door.
