Drill presses are stationary drilling machines that make holes in workpieces by rotating bits positioned in a vertically mounted drill head and driving them downward. For making holes in wooden workpieces, these drill presses typically spin bits at higher speeds with low torque. They also support work on the table below the drill head while maintaining precise alignment to make better holes than handheld drills. Depending on the type of bits used, these drilling machines may ream, tap, countersink, counterbore or execute other hole-making operations.
Benchtop Dayton drill presses make holes in wooden workpieces with lower thickness and mount to a work surface for saving floor space. These drill presses are more compact and have a shorter spindle travel as compared to floor stand drill presses. Their manual down feed needs hand cranking for lowering drill bits into workpieces. Their motor utilises belt-driven pulleys for transmitting torque to the drilling spindle.
Dayton 2LKU8 micro drill press is used in woodworking industries and maintenance shops for making accurate holes on wooden workpieces. It has a direct drive motor for delivering higher torque and power as the motor senses load. This Dayton 2LKU8 micro drill press is capable of controlling the depth, angle & diameter of holes during drilling. It offers variable speed control with the help of knob adjustment. This Dayton drill press comes equipped with keyed chucks that allow users to torque down tighter on the bit and also provides drilling up to 1/8 inch in steel workpieces. The spindle of this Dayton drill press further offers speeds ranging from 2000 to 12000 rpm and includes a fine down feed handwheel for precise movement & adjustment of the machine.
Dayton 2LKU8 micro drill press is ideal for drilling precise holes on workpieces in maintenance shops and woodworking applications.
As the power is supplied to the motor, the spindle starts rotating. Thus, the attached stepped pulley also starts rotating. At another end, an additional stepped pulley is attached that is inverted for increasing or decreasing the rotational speed. A trigger switch further activates the direct-drive motor that drives the rotating chuck. A wide range of accessories can fit into the chuck to allow the drill to grind, sand & polish a wide variety of materials.
A. Raptor Supplies offers a variety of Dayton drill presses such as, floor drill presses, radial floor drill presses and radial bench drill press.
A. Drill presses come with 3/8 inch or larger chucks for gripping straight round shafts. The common spade bits, fostner bits, twist drill bits and others work fine with drill presses.
A. Swing is the distance between the spindle and the machine's central column, multiplied by two. It gives you the maximum width of material to be fitted on the drill press if you want to drill the centre of the workpiece.
A. Typically, a benchtop drill press can only go up to 4 inches deep. If you're working with materials thicker than 4 inches, then this drill press is not for you.
A. For checking the table, place the centre of the table directly below the drill press chuck and lock the table with a height about eight inches below the bottom of the chuck.
A. Look closely at the drill's chuck for the engraved numbers. The chuck size will look something like 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 etc. So measure the hole diameter on the side of the chuck in inches with the help of a ruler. Take these two measurements to your local hardware store for making your selection.
