What is the difference between closed-loop and open-loop vector controls?

  • Open-loop vector controls offer high starting torque and increased low-speed torque. They are ideal for applications requiring 100% of the rated torque at low speeds, like AC synchronous and induction motors.
  • Closed-loop vector controls allow 200% of the motor's rated torque at 0 RPM and are ideal for applications requiring load at standstill, like cranes and hoists.
