Working Mechanism

  • The switch is connected to two separate power sources, such as a generator and utility power.
  • The handle of the switch is in the normal position and the contacts are connected to the primary power source.
  • When a power outage occurs or a need arises to switch to the alternate power source, the handle is turned to the alternate position.
  • The mechanism within the switch operates to quickly and safely disconnect the contacts from the primary power source and connect them to the alternate power source.
  • The switch makes a secure and reliable connection to the alternate power source, allowing uninterrupted power flow.
  • In the event of an overload or fault, the fuses within the switch can interrupt the circuit to protect the switch and the connected equipment.

Features

  • They come with two interlocked switches with a common connection to transfer service from a normal power source to an alternate source or to switch from one load circuit to another.
  • They have a tri-lingual nameplate, palm-fitting red handle and a visible, embossed red ON-OFF indication for ease of operations.
  • These safety switches offer three and four point mounting options.
  • They feature a stacked-switch design with fusible units for reduced wall space requirements.

Standards and Approvals

  • UL

Frequently Asked Questions

How to install these safety switches?

  • The switch should be installed in a dry, well-ventilated location that is easily accessible. The location should also be free from sources of vibration, moisture and excessive heat.
  • Before beginning the installation, ensure that power to the area is disconnected and the switch is isolated.
  • The switch should be mounted securely to a suitable surface using the provided mounting hardware.
  • Once the wiring is connected, test the switch to ensure it operates correctly and safely. This should include verifying the proper functioning of safety interlocks or lockout mechanisms.
  • The switch should be labelled clearly to indicate its purpose and any hazards associated with its operation.

How do I maintain Eaton double-throw safety switches?

  • Regular inspection of these safety switches is important to ensure the switch is in good condition and functioning properly.
  • Regular cleaning of the switch prevents dust, dirt and debris from accumulating on the switch's components.
  • Regular lubrication of the switch's moving parts and contact surfaces ensures smooth and safe operation.
  • Regular testing of the switch ensures that it operates correctly and switches between power sources as intended and should be done annually or more frequently if in a harsh environment.
