A. Even if a cold trap is used, due to moisture contamination, the vacuum pump oil may need to be changed several times. Allow the vacuum pump to run unattended overnight only if a visual inspection of the vacuum pump oil reveals little or no moisture.
A. ISO 22 or ISO 32 viscosity is typically required for liquid ring vacuum pumps. The oil used in rotary vane vacuum pumps is typically ISO 68 (SAE 20) or ISO 100 (SAE 30). Process pumps and other vacuum pumps that use a gearbox require a viscous oil, such as ISO 220 (SAE 50).
A. If the vacuum level is not an issue, a single-stage vane pump may suffice. If a deeper pressure with good vacuum performance is required, the dual-stage rotary vane pump is the best option.
