A. The sampling tube comes with holes to extend throughout the duct. It can draw air from a protected space back to a sensing chamber and detect smoke in the HVAC system with the primary purpose of shutting the system down immediately.
A. A sampling tube end cap is designed to create the proper airflow to the sensor of the duct smoke detector. Once the sampling tube length adjustments are made, the end cap is plugged into the sampling tube for proper operation.
A. One of the measures that can be taken to test a smoke detector is to spray aerosol smoke into the duct through a 1/4 inch hole for 5 seconds. It takes up to 2 minutes for the duct smoke detector to alarm. If the detector alarms, the air is flowing through the detector.
