Piston Air Compressor / Vacuum Pumps

Thomas oilless air compressor / vacuum pumps are designed for generating a high flow of compressed air or creating a vacuum for controlling pneumatic equipment or systems. These piston air compressors feature die cast aluminium components and cylinders with stainless steel valves for maximum heat transfer and reliability over a long time, while the sandwich valves protect the valve seats from dust and other contaminants. They are permanently lubricated for smooth and quiet operation. Choose from a wide range of air compressor, available in permanent magnet and shaded pole motor variants on Raptor Supplies.

Working Mechanism

  • Where the pistons work in short, discreet bursts, these Thomas air or vacuum pumps utilise positive displacement to increase or minimise space containing air, forcing it to move through a one-way valve.
  • They use a valve system and two valve discs.
  • When the piston draws air into the cylinder and moves downward, then the largest disc bend fold downwards and permits the air to pass.
  • The piston then moves upwards, and again the large disc bends to seal against the valve seat.

Features

  • These thermally protected Thomas air pumps or vacuum pumps have shaded pole motors for small devices requiring low starting torque.
  • They have die-cast aluminium components and cylinders to ensure excellent electrical conductivity & corrosion resistance.
  • Further, they come with stainless steel valves for maximum heat transfer and reliability over a long time.
  • The sandwich valves protect the valve seats from dust and other contaminants.
  • Thomas air pumps are permanently lubricated for smooth and quiet operation.
  • They come available with two ports (one for vacuum and the other for pressure).
  • Moreover, the lap joint piston rings in the units seal the combustion chamber to protect them from wear.

Compatible Accessories

  • Thomas Service Kits: They are compatible with compressor & vacuum pumps and include connecting rod assemblies, head gaskets, filters, screws, O-rings, valve keepers & valve flappers.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a piston and a rotary compressor?

A piston air compressor is oil-cooled, resulting in the release of oil residue when the compressed air discharges. On the other hand, rotary air compressors are configured with interlocking helical rotors (two) that are fitted with a little gap between them and are soaked in an oil bath inside a housing.

How do you gap a piston ring?

In the case of a flat top piston, use the piston to shove one inch down into the cylinder to create a gap.

Why is it called a shaded pole motor?

The poles in these motors are unevenly divided into two halves. The smaller portion is the shaded portion having a copper band. The shading coil or copper ring is a single turn that is fitted on a smaller part. Hence, this shading coil is known as a shading pole.
