Working Mechanism
After calibrating Starrett outside micrometer and checking the accuracy, place the object / tool to be measured between the C-shaped jaw of the micrometer.
Start rotating the thimble to move the spindle face towards the object. Turning the thimble exposes the stationary scale on the sleeve. Rotate the thimble till the spindle face touches the object.
The ten-thousandth number of the measurement can be determined easily by the user by matching the most closely aligned vernier scale line with a line on the thimble.
For getting the final measurement, add the lower range of the micrometer (0 or 1) to the left of the decimal point and the micrometer reading to the right of the decimal.
