Proto cold chisel sets are designed to cut through hard materials like metal or masonry. They are usually employed to cut / shape materials when the stock is thick and tools like a hacksaw or tin snips are not suitable.

The name cold chisel comes from its use by blacksmiths to cut a metal while it is cold compared to other tools they used to cut when hot.
