Working Mechanism

  • These switches provide simple operation by manually turning off the power to the equipment.
  • They are mounted on an electrical panel and the equipment being serviced is connected to the switch via electrical wiring.
  • When it is time for servicing the equipment, the switch can be manually turned off, interrupting the flow of electrical power to the equipment.

Features

  • They feature heavy-duty construction that can withstand rugged environments and the high demands of industrial applications.
  • These switches have a single-throw design that keeps the switch in one position at a time (either on / off) to allow or restrict the current flow.
  • They are available with NEMA 1, 3R, 4 and 4X enclosures for superior environmental protection against ingress of contaminants.
  • These non-fused switches have mechanically interlocked covers to prevent easy access when the switch is in the ON position.
  • Selected models incorporate a viewing window with visible blade components to prevent tampering or accidental contact with internal components.

Standards and Approvals

  • UL

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the purpose of the NEMA 3R enclosure rating?

The National Electrical Manufacturers Association sets the NEMA 3R enclosure rating to protect against falling rain, sleet, snow and external ice formation. These enclosures also protect against the ingress of solid foreign objects like dust.

What is the difference between fusible and non-fusible switches?

Fusible switches have in-built fuses designed to melt and break the circuit in the event of a fault or overload. In non-fusible switches, the fuse is absent and they rely on other protective devices like circuit breakers or fuses located upstream to interrupt the circuit in case of a fault or overload.

How to maintain non-fusible safety switches?

  • Conduct a visual inspection of the switch and its enclosure regularly. Look for signs of damage, including wear, cracks, rust or corrosion. Restore or replace any damaged parts as necessary.
  • Clean them regularly to remove any dust or debris and other contaminants that may have accumulated on or around the switch.
  • Periodically lubricate the switch's moving parts, like the operating handle and pivot points, to ensure smooth and reliable operation.
  • Electrically test these switches periodically to ensure proper functioning.
