Working Mechanism

  • Eaton GD Series moulded case circuit breakers feature fixed thermal and fixed magnetic trips to protect against faulty currents:

Fixed Thermal Trips

  • The thermal trip consists of a bimetallic strip which gets heated and bends when an overcurrent passes through the conductors, which opens the contacts and interrupts the current flow.

Fixed Magnetic Trips

  • The magnetic trip has an electromagnetic component that detects the presence of short circuits in a circuit.
  • As the current rises, a magnetic field is generated that trips the breaker and causes the contacts to open and stop the current flow.

Features

  • These units feature a fixed thermal and fixed magnetic trip unit to avoid nuisance tripping in mild current fluctuation but are highly sensitive to heavy inrush current, thus producing both instantaneous and time-delayed current limiting protection.
  • They have a compact, space-saving design that provides installation in tight spaces and allows for high-speed blow-open action, resulting in superior performance.
  • They are integrated with line and load side terminals for easy installation with panelboards and load centres.
  • These MCCBs also include a toggle and a mechanical latching mechanism that ensures the circuit breaker remains in the tripped position until it is manually reset.

Standards and Approvals

  • UL

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the advantage of moulded cases?

Moulded cases hold current-carrying components, trip devices and mechanisms integrated into one unit.

What is the purpose of a G-frame?

A G-frame is a modular design that provides a versatile and flexible platform to accommodate low-voltage circuit breakers. They also protect electrical systems from damage caused by overloads and short circuits, as well as mechanical stress.

What is the purpose of a toggle?

These circuit breakers come with an integrated over-centre toggle for visual indication of tripped status.
