The normally open (NO) contact is the one that remains open until its actuator is pressed to start the current flow. Normally closed (NC) contact, on the other hand, remains closed unless an actuator is released to stop the current flow. They both are used to indicate the state of switches, sensors and relay contacts.
A pushbutton switch is a sealed mechanism which consists of a small metal spring. When pressed, the spring comes in contact with wires, allowing electricity to flow. When the button is released, the spring retracts and the contact is interrupted, thus blocking the current flow completely.
The operator has silver contacts with grounded nibs to improve reliability of switching performance under dry circuits and fine dust conditions.
