Working Mechanism

  • The double-pole definite-purpose contactor uses an electromagnet to control the flow of current.
  • When a current is applied to the electromagnet, it creates a magnetic field that attracts an armature.
  • This forces the armature to close the electrical contacts, allowing the current to flow to the load and turning it on.
  • When the coil is de-energised, the magnetic field collapses, causing the armature to return to its original position, thereby opening the contacts and turning off the load.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the purpose of quick-connect terminals?

Quick-connect terminals allow fast and easy connection and disconnection of wires. They typically consist of a metal blade inserted into a socket and can be easily removed by pulling or pushing the release tab.

How do I size a contactor for a specific operation?

To determine the size of the connector, users must select a contactor with a current rating equal to or greater than the full-load current of the motor or other load and with a voltage rating that matches the voltage of the power source.

How to install definite-purpose contactors?

  • Turn off the power to the equipment where the contactor needs to be installed.
  • Mount the contractor securely to a location where it is not exposed to excessive heat, moisture or vibration.
  • Connect the line voltage wire to the side of the contactor.
  • Connect the load wires to the bottom terminals of the contactor.
