Features

  • Samples are placed in these tubes with the appropriate grinding beads and subjected to high-energy mixing.
  • The beads impact the sample, eventually breaking it down on the cellular level and releasing subcellular contents (DNA, RNA and proteins).
  • These pre-filled tubes are available in stainless steel, glass and Triple-Pure zirconium beads for homogenising samples and are washed & processed to remove nucleases and proteases.
  • They are screw-capped, non-skirted and fit most bead homogenisers for sample breakdown.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are glass beads used for?

  • Silica (glass) beads are available in a variety of sizes ranging from 0.1 to 1.0 mm, each performing different functions.
  • 0.1 mm beads are best for homogenisation of gram-positive and negative bacteria.
  • 0.5 mm beads homogenise bacteria, fungi, spores, moulds and small yeasts.
  • 1.0 mm beads can be used to homogenise fungi, spores, algae and larger yeasts.

Why are steel homogeniser beads better than glass (silica) beads?

Steel beads are much denser than zirconium / glass beads and are ideal for the homogenisation of harder samples and dry grinding. They are available in 2.8 and 5 mm diameter ranges.

What are the advantages of using Triple-Pure bead tubes?

The Triple-Pure bead tubes undergo special handling during filling and are quality tested to ensure the elimination of DNase, RNase, protease, and nucleic acids. These high-purity beads are highly recommended for molecular biology applications.
