3M Firestop Sealant, 10 Oz Cartridge

3M firestop sealants control the spread of fire, smoke and noxious gases in an event of a fire. They are used in plumbing, mechanical and electrical applications to prevent blank openings and penetrations that pass through fire-rated floors, ceilings or wall assemblies.

Features

  • They feature intumescent latex technology that secures the seal for up to 4 hours as penetrants are exposed to fire.
  • These halogen-free sealants are capable of expanding a minimum of three times their dried volume when exposed to temperatures above 1000 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • They are engineered to exhibit strong adhesion and form a monolithic seal that also acts as a barrier to airborne sound transmission and makes the sealant compatible with a full range of construction substrates and penetrates.
  • These sag-resistant sealants are applicable for applications like HVAC ducts & vents, metallic & non-metallic pipes, single & bundled cables, busways, static construction joints and more.
  • 3M's 3000 WT sealant is water-tight to prevent intrusion of moisture, making it ideal for CPVC piping.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to install the firestop sealant?

  • Clean the surface opening and any penetrating item to allow proper adhesion.
  • Ensure that the surfaces are frost free and not wet.
  • Install the applicable depth of backing material (if required).
  • Cut the end of the 3M fire barrier sealant tube spout to achieve the desired bead width while applying.
  • Install the applicable depth into the opening flush with the surface of the substrate as required for the assembly.
  • Use a standard caulking gun, pneumatic pumping equipment or a putty knife for easy application.

Can the sealant be painted after application?

3M fire-stopping sealant features water-based properties, making it paintable as well as re-enterable and repairable, offering easy application and clean-up.

What is meant by thixotropy?

The sealant material is thixotropic which means that it changes its viscosity and becomes more fluid when subjected to constant shear force. The longer the fluid is under shear stress, the less viscosity it possesses. This thixotropic property allows the sealant to be applied to overhead, vertical and horizontal firestops with no hassle.
