Features

Nelson welding studs are fully threaded along their entire length when installed on a workpiece to securely join different parts of the product.
They do not leave any length during the welding process and prevent marring, making them suitable for sheet metal and thin materials.
They require low levels of heat and less time to weld compared to standard arc weld studs.
Nelson chucks or collets are installed onto CD stud welding guns to hold the welding stud safely and transfer current & pressure during the welding process.

Working Mechanism

The mechanism of capacitor discharge (CD) weld studs is based on the principle of electric capacitance.
The workpiece and the stud are clamped in place, keeping the end of the stud in contact with the workpiece.
A capacitor is charged to a high voltage, typically up to 1000 volts and then stores a large amount of energy.
This stored energy is then discharged through the stud and the workpiece, creating an arc.
The arc melts the end of the stud and fuses it to the workpiece, creating a strong and permanent weld.
