About Krytox

Dupont Krytox is a leading manufacturer of lubricants providing superior corrosion protection and load-carrying capacities in high-temperatures & caustic environments. Their extensive product catalogue includes corrugator (CORR) & NRT (non-reactive) greases & additives and lubricants of high-temperature, high-performance, automotive, GPL (general purpose), high-vacuum types. Krytox greases are used in applications requiring non-flammability, material compatibility, stability at high temperatures and resistance to chemicals. These lubricants also eliminate the frequent relubrication requirement in sealed systems.
Krytox performance lubricants for aerospace contain a special thickener with low evaporation rates, thereby reducing the need for additional re-lubrication in continuous operations. These NLGI (National Lubricating Grease Institute) Grade 2 grease / oils provide thermal, oxidative and radiation stability to prevent machine breakdown at temperatures up to 399 degrees C. They are suitable for use in the aerospace industry to provide lifetime lubrication for critical components like valves and bearings.
Krytox performance lubricants for seals feature broad elastomeric compatibility to prevent seals from swelling, shrinking or cracking and have silicon-free construction for causing minimal environmental footprint.

Things To Consider

Cross-Reference Alternatives

DuPont Krytox grease & lubricants' MPNs (manufacturer's part numbers) generally cross individual reference to the equivalent Fluoramics, Renewable Lubricants, Vulcan Hart and Zep model numbers. So, if you're looking for oil / grease / lubricant that is either out of stock or obsolete, chances are Raptor Supplies has the alternate product available.

Shipping

These DuPont Krytox grease, oils & lubricants are generally small in size and require compact packaging. They are suitable for courier shipment and not air freight.

Krytox Competitive Advantages

Krytox Perfluoropolyethers (PFPEs) lubricants

Krytox oils, greases & lubricants comprise a compound mixture called perfluoropolyether (PFPE) made from only carbon, oxygen & fluorine. These Krytox perfluorinated oils provide higher performance at extreme temperature, pressure & operating conditions compared to their hydrocarbon alternatives. They also show excellent chemical stability & compatibility with almost all materials. Perfluoropolyether lubricants offer long-lasting performance for reduced maintenance & downtime and increased component life.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the typical applications of various grades of Krytox GPL Series lubricants?

  • Krytox GPL 10X Series oil & Krytox GPL 20X Series grease do not contain any additives and can be used on valves, bearings, seal barrier fluids, instruments & oxygen system components that come in contact with general use chemicals.
  • Krytox GPL 21X Series incorporate molybdenum disulfide for use in extreme pressure (EP), slow speed or heavily loaded applications.
  • Krytox GPL 22X Series lubricants include sodium nitrite for improving anti-wear properties, corrosion resistance & load carrying performance in automobile, sealed pump, motor & general purpose bearings.
  • Krytox GPL 29X greases use additives for applications handling extreme pressure & requiring anti-corrosion protection & high load-carrying capacity.
  • Krytox GPL 2EX lubricants are similar to Krytox GPL 22X Series greases, but contain a non-nitrite additive providing anti-rust properties.

How are Krytox greases made?

Krytox greases are made by combining the base oil & a thickener with very small particle size polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). The base oil can have a wide range of viscosities for handling diverse temperatures & load conditions. The grease is also blended with additives for adding anti-corrosion properties, increasing load-carrying capability & reducing damage due to wear. A standard Krytox grease generally has NLGI (National Lubricating Grease Institute) Grade 2 consistency. However, Krytox can produce greases having NLGI Grades 000 through 6 upon request.

What are the steps for proper lubrication of bearings?

  • Go through the lubrication process in a clean, dirt-free area using proper tools like elastomeric tools & lint-free clothes / towels.
  • Removed the bearing seal carefully using a prying tool without damaging the component.
  • Clean the bearing thoroughly of any pre-existing grease / oil using a non-chlorinated solvent and dry using warm air or by heating it.
  • Apply Krytox lubricant according to application requirements while measuring its weight & ensuring uniform distribution. Too little amount of grease may cause bearing failure. Whereas, the application of excess lubricant may cause overheating of bearing.
  • Replace the seals / shields. Metallic shields can not be reused. The re-lubricated bearing is ready for use.

What standards / certifications do DuPont Krytox grease abide by?

Krytox lubricants are manufactured under international certifications like ISO 9001 & ISO 14001 for superior quality, user safety and environmental health. Selected models also adhere to MIL-Spec PRF-27617 for aerospace & aircraft applications and NSF H1 for food-grade applications. Some models follow DIN 3536 / DIN EN 377 for applications involving gas appliances, controls, transportation and distribution.
