What do Dayco tensioners do in belt systems?

Dayco's automatic belt tensioners incorporate innovative flat spring technology, enabling it to transmit increased torque to the belt when necessary. These belt tensioners overcome limitations such as conventional V-belt systems with limited torque due to locked centres in belt adjustments. Insufficient tension during installation or belt stretching and wear over time can cause the belt to slip under load, resulting in poor performance and premature failure. The spring-loaded automatic tensioner addresses belt stretch and wears by maintaining consistent tension throughout the belt's lifespan.

How do we know when to replace a belt?

• Always inspect the bottom sides of the belt for cracks or splits, especially during flexing. A belt that is cracked or split poses a risk of sudden failure at any given moment.
• When a belt becomes glazed, its sides become slick and hard, impairing its proper functionality. This can lead to issues such as overheating of components like the radiator.
• The peeling of the undersurface of a belt results in an uneven texture, leading to rough operation and eventual failure.
• The accumulation of grease on a belt causes it to soften, deteriorate and eventually fail. Additionally, when the ribs of a belt start to chunk out, it becomes highly susceptible to failure at any given moment.

What precautions should be considered when installing Dayco belts?

It becomes of utmost importance to exercise extreme caution to prevent pry bar damage on the power steering body and alternator end covers. Avoid applying excessive force or using prying tools to force the belt into grooves or crank the engine. Engaging in such abusive practices can cause permanent damage, lead to premature belt failure and may even result in personal injury or property damage.
