Piston Air Compressors

Gast piston air compressors are positive displacement compressors which employs a crankshaft-driven piston and cylinder to compress the air. These vacuum pumps feature aluminium cylinders and heads having thermally protected, shaded-pole motors with superior torque start windings. Choose from a wide range of these piston air compressors, available in electric, shaded pole, capacitor start and open motor types.

Working Mechanism

  • Piston air compressor / vacuum pumps operations are based on the reciprocating piston within a cylinder principle.
  • The piston is linked to a crankshaft powered by an electric motor.
  • When the motor starts, the crankshaft begins to rotate, causing the piston within the cylinder to move back and forth.
  • The piston compresses the air in the cylinder as it moves towards the cylinder head. After that, the compressed air is stored in a pressure tank or reservoir.
  • When the piston moves away from the cylinder head, a vacuum is created in the cylinder to draw in the ambient air.
